Comment policy

As the discussions on P&P become more lively, we have to start enforcing stricter moderation. Much like for contributions, we are not looking for consensus or politeness, on the contrary. We believe that contradiction and debates, sometimes heated, are a necessary part of building together as a community.

That said, we will remove comments that:

  • insult or attack a person or their work (“this is stupid”, “this is bullshit”), even if an argument follows. Say what is wrong and why, as bluntly as you like, but drop the insults;
  • dismiss a piece without saying why. A comment that is only a verdict, such as “this is wrong”, gets removed, even if it’s aimed at the argument and not the author;
  • are posted in bad faith, to provoke rather than to discuss;
  • attack or demean people on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, nationality or similar characteristics;
  • threaten, incite or condone violence or self-harm;
  • are spam or purely promotional.

Comments from first-time commenters, and comments containing several links, are held for review before appearing. This is routine and not a judgement on you. Moderation is done by the hosts and involves judgement calls and time, so a comment may take a while to appear. If you think we got one wrong, write to us at proofsandprompts@gmail.com.
